A suspected drug trafficker was apprehended on Sunday, June 22, 2025, during a coordinated operation by security forces at the Fallah Checkpoint along the Bo–Taiama Highway.
The individual, identified as Santigie Bangura, also known as Santana, resides at 23 Charles Street, Centre 2, Freetown. He was found in possession of five and a half kilograms of dried leaves believed to be Kush, hidden beneath the seat of a Toyota CHR with registration number AWB 358. The vehicle was stopped while en route to Kenema.
During police questioning, Bangura admitted to intending to “run business” with his regular buyers. He claimed to have been involved in the drug trade for approximately three months, revealing that the Kush contained several harmful ingredients, including Mashmeleon leaves, fine C-L dust, and a green-and-yellow powdery chemical, all resembling Cannabis. This discovery raises concerns about the increasing complexity of drug mixtures being sold in the region.
Bangura, along with the vehicle, is currently in custody at the Regional Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) South. Investigations are ongoing, and detailed statements are being collected. The Sierra Leone Police confirmed the arrest in a statement shared on social media.
