A 19-year-old woman, Emma Morlia Sesay, has been remanded to the female correctional center in Freetown following a ruling by Magistrate Santigie Bangura on February 12, 2025. Sesay is facing charges of child theft related to an incident that allegedly occurred on November 13, 2024, in the Fort Street area.
According to the prosecution, led by Sergeant Florence M. Wilson, Sesay reportedly took a one-week-old baby boy, Mustapha Sesay, from his parents without their consent. The prosecution presented its second witness, Martha Sesay, a businesswoman and neighbor of the accused, who provided crucial testimony.
Martha recounted that on the day of the incident, Emma approached her, claiming to have just given birth. Emma then took the baby and subsequently disappeared. Despite her efforts to locate Emma and the child, Martha was unsuccessful. Later that night, she received information from police in Makeni that Emma had been arrested there with the baby.
The following day, Martha visited the Rogbameh police station, where she confirmed that the baby had been taken from her and expressed relief upon his return after giving her statement.
During cross-examination, Emma’s lawyer, A.N.D Musa, requested bail for the accused; however, the magistrate denied the request, citing the seriousness of the charges. The case has been adjourned until February 19, 2025, for further proceedings.
