The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has successfully concluded the teacher licensing examination in Kenema, part of the government’s initiative to professionalize the teaching workforce across Sierra Leone.

The exam commenced on May 23 and will continue until May 26, 2025, at Kenema Government Secondary School. This nationwide licensing exam is mandatory for all public and private school teachers and serves as a key requirement for obtaining a teaching license, certifying a teacher’s competence, ethical conduct, and readiness to deliver quality education.

Deputy Director of TSC in Kenema District, Tamba Sivico Bockarie, emphasized that the process aims to ensure quality, credibility, and professionalism within the educational sector. He noted that the examination is a critical component of the government’s Free Quality School Education (FQSE) initiative.

The licensing effort seeks to enhance teaching and learning outcomes, standardize teacher qualifications, and promote accountability in line with national educational standards. Thousands of teachers across the country registered and participated at their respective regional centers.

To ensure transparency and credibility, the examination process was closely monitored by civil society observers and media representatives. “We welcome this move; it’s a long-overdue step toward recognizing teaching as a dignified and respected profession,” remarked Madam Isata Kallon, a participating teacher in Kenema.
