Freetown, Sierra Leone — Foday Salam Kamara, 26, a student, and Alimamy Abudeen Kamara, 44, a private security officer, appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on charges of conspiracy, office breaking, and larceny, in violation of Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The prosecution alleges that the accused conspired with unknown individuals to commit a felony on December 23, 2024, at No. 39 Adelaide Street, Freetown. The second charge states that on the same date and location, they broke into the office of Abdul Rahman Kamara, the Chief Executive Officer, and stole 109,000 Leones.

Inspector Kadie M. Taylor led the prosecution, calling Abdul Rahman Kamara as its first witness. Kamara, a pharmacist, testified that he recognized the first accused, who had served as his deputy at the pharmacy, but did not know the second accused. He recounted receiving a call around 11:30 a.m. while in Kambia from a nurse at his pharmacy, alerting him to an incident.

Upon returning to Freetown and inspecting his office, Kamara discovered that a window had been broken and that his office safe, which required both a key and a code, had been tampered with. He noted that only one person was aware of the key’s location, which is currently in police custody.

As proceedings continued, the prosecutor requested a brief adjournment for further consultations with the witness. Meanwhile, defense counsel M. Amara applied for bail, asserting that both accused are Sierra Leonean residents with reliable sureties prepared to enter into recognizance on their behalf. Amara assured the court that the accused would not interfere with witnesses or abscond, referencing Section 79(2) of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965.

Magistrate Kekura granted bail to both accused, setting the amount at 200,000 Leones each, or one surety in a like sum. The sureties must be residents of Freetown, employed by recognized institutions, and provide proof of employment and residential status. Bail approval is to be conducted by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The case is set to resume on February 14, 2025, for further hearing.
