Two surveyors, Saio Turay, 33, and Fara Bangalie Kamara, 30, faced Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on charges of land fraud. They are accused of conspiracy and multiple counts of obtaining money under false pretenses, violations of the Larceny Act of 1916.

Court documents reveal that between May 1 and May 10, 2024, at the Youyi Building Canteen in Freetown, the defendants allegedly conspired with unidentified individuals to defraud victims by claiming to sell nonexistent land.

Specifically, the first count alleges that the pair fraudulently acquired Le 50,000 from Ansumana Conteh by misrepresenting their ownership of land for sale on Grafton Highway. A second charge states that on May 1, 2024, at #7c Hill Cut Road, Wilberforce, they deceived Conteh into paying Le 5,500 by promising to prepare land documents that did not exist. The third allegation against Kamara claims he obtained Le 2,000 from Conteh by falsely asserting he had surveyed a one-and-a-half-town lot on Grafton Highway.

During their initial court appearance, the defendants did not enter a plea.

In response to the situation, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh requested the issuance of bench warrants for the defendants and their sureties. Magistrate Fornah granted this request, leading to the issuance of warrants for both the accused and their sureties who were absent during the proceedings.

The case has been adjourned until October 15, 2025.
