Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd AIG Morie Lengor Esq., welcomed U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Mr. Bryan David Hunt, and his delegation for a high-level meeting at his Gloucester Street office. The discussion centered on enhancing security cooperation and reinforcing the enduring relationship between the two nations.
Ambassador Hunt emphasized the need for improved security measures, particularly in combating human trafficking, transnational organized crime, irregular migration, and drug control. He also addressed the issue of deporting Sierra Leonean nationals residing illegally in the United States, promising the Minister regular updates on the processes, profiling, and notifications related to their return.
The Ambassador expressed a keen interest in supporting the Ministry’s transformation, urging Minister Lengor to identify priority areas for collaboration, including capacity-building training for personnel. He noted the importance of understanding the Minister’s policy direction and initiatives aimed at bolstering national security.
In his response, Minister Lengor welcomed the U.S. delegation and reaffirmed the Sierra Leonean government’s commitment to national security and public safety. He revealed that the Ministry is developing a Strategic Master Plan and invited Ambassador Hunt to provide insights, particularly in areas where U.S. support could be beneficial during implementation.
Minister Lengor also sought continued U.S. assistance for various agencies under his Ministry, expressing gratitude for the Ambassador’s visit and contributions to national peace through the Tripartite Agreement. He assured the Ambassador of a reciprocal visit to further enhance cooperation for the mutual benefit of both Sierra Leone and the United States.
