U.S. Government Invests Over $2 Million in Sierra Leone’s Mpox Response

The United States Government has confirmed its commitment to supporting Sierra Leone in combating the Mpox outbreak, contributing more than $2 million to enhance response efforts.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Freetown, this funding has been instrumental in reducing daily Mpox cases from a peak of 200 in April to single digits by August. The success is attributed to the collaborative efforts of the National Public Health Agency, the Ministry of Health, and various partners working diligently to control the outbreak.

The U.S. investment also included financial support for the Mpox Intra-Action Review sessions held on August 11 and 12, 2025. These sessions brought together key stakeholders to assess the progress made, address ongoing challenges, and develop strategies aimed at completely eradicating the outbreak.
