Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has praised the inauguration of the 5th Chinese Chamber of Commerce, describing it as a “revitalized chapter” in Sierra Leone’s enduring partnership with China. He commended Chinese companies for their significant contributions in sectors such as manufacturing, mining, and construction during a speech at the Bintumani International Conference Centre in Freetown.

Dr. Jalloh noted the substantial growth of Chinese investment in Sierra Leone over the past two to three decades, stating, “Chinese companies are doing very well, and we are very happy with the progress you have made so far.” He emphasized the importance of fostering local partnerships and adhering to labor and environmental standards, urging businesses to prioritize sourcing materials locally and training Sierra Leonean workers.

Chinese Ambassador H.E. Wang Qing echoed these sentiments, revealing that bilateral trade reached $1.8 billion in 2024. He praised Chinese firms for their community engagement, job creation, and contributions to social development, while also urging them to operate responsibly and comply with local laws.

The newly elected Chamber President, Mr. Du Xinguo, committed to enhancing coordination among members and promoting ethical investment. He stated that the Chamber aims to “build a dynamic and influential organization that contributes to Sierra Leone’s prosperity.”

Minister of Trade and Industry Hon. Alpha Ibrahim Sesay also underscored China’s position as the largest investor in the country. He encouraged businesses to explore opportunities in agro-processing, renewable energy, and manufacturing, asserting, “Sierra Leone is open for business.” Sesay highlighted the government’s reforms aimed at transitioning from a resource-based economy to a more productive one.
