In a troubling development, Paramount Chief Mohamed Saio Marah and Mr. Kalie Marah, the Legal Aid Board representative for Falaba District, are accused of instigating violence between the Morinfindugu and Kamadugu-Yiraia chiefdoms. The conflict has escalated dangerously, with residents of Nyenekonkofeh erecting roadblocks and employing firearms against the people of Yiraia-Moria.
The unrest reportedly stemmed from an incident involving a community teacher at the DEC Primary School in Yiraia-Moria, who was assaulted. In response, residents of Nyenekonkofeh, under the influence of Chief Marah and Mr. Kalie Marah, have intensified tensions. Mr. Marah has allegedly claimed to exert control over local police and district authorities, further exacerbating the situation.
Disturbingly, reports indicate that Mr. Marah attempted to bribe police officials and local authorities with two sheep and cash to manipulate their actions. Despite police attempts to mediate peace, residents of Nyenekonkofeh, fueled by their leaders’ directives, blocked the main road from Yiraia-Moria to Sinikoro, causing significant disruption and deepening the conflict.
As a representative of an organization dedicated to fostering peace, Mr. Kalie Marah’s actions are seen as grossly inappropriate and contrary to the Legal Aid Board’s core values. His involvement in escalating violence, attempting to influence law enforcement, and facilitating illegal roadblocks constitutes a serious violation of his professional responsibilities.
The Legal Aid Board is urged to conduct an immediate investigation into Mr. Kalie Marah’s actions, as well as the role of Paramount Chief Mohamed Saio Marah in this escalating violence. Swift action is essential to restore peace between the chiefdoms and prevent future incidents of this nature.
The community anticipates a prompt response from the Legal Aid Board and the implementation of necessary measures to resolve this matter.
