The Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC) has begun a review of its Act, established in 2011, to reflect new developments and trends in the electricity and water sectors on yesterday Monday 2nd 2024.

The review, sponsored by the World Bank, aims to update the Act to incorporate sanitation, increase public education, and address unfair competition.

According to Dr. Emmanuel Mannah, Director-General of SLEWRC, the review is necessary to meet current trends and challenges in the industry. The consultant, Alfred Paul Juwah Esq., presented the draft reviewed Act, highlighting modifications and additions to the original Act.

Stakeholders raised concerns and recommendations, including the need to expand the Commission’s mandate to include sanitation, increase public education and sensitization, review the composition and tenure of the Board, address unfair competition, and protect the environment.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on SLEWRC, Hon. Mus Lahai, emphasized the need for SLEWRC to engage and sensitize Members of Parliament on the draft Act.

The review process will continue with public consultations and stakeholder engagement to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive update of the SLEWRC Act.
