Alhaji Sheku Fofanah, the Youth Chairman of Koinadugu District, has expressed profound sorrow following a violent clash between youth in the Diang and Wara-Wara Yagala chiefdoms, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
In a statement released after the incident, Fofanah condemned the violence and urged for calm and unity among young people in the district. “I am deeply saddened by the recent clash over land disputes that has led to the tragic loss of two lives. Violence is never the solution,” he stated. “We must learn from this painful incident to foster peace and understanding within our communities.”
Fofanah encouraged youth in both chiefdoms to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts and emphasized the importance of dialogue. “Our strength lies in unity, and we must work to build a future that reflects our shared values and respect for one another,” he added. He called on young people to become agents of peace, rejecting aggression and promoting messages of harmony within their communities.
“Let us honor those we have lost by committing to a peaceful and prosperous future for all,” Fofanah concluded.
According to BBC and Reuters reporter Umaru Fofana, the clash involved the Koranko and Limba ethnic groups, stemming from a bitter disagreement over land in northern Sierra Leone. Reports indicate that relative calm has been restored in the communities as authorities continue to investigate the matter.
