Youth Envoy Suspended Amid $400,000 Fraud Allegations

Yulisa Ahmadu, popularly known as Dr. Love, was appointed Youth Envoy in the Ministry of Youth Affairs by His Excellency on May 25, 2023. His role includes representing and advocating for the voices and interests of the youth, alongside any additional duties assigned by the President or the Minister of Youth Affairs.

However, recent reports have surfaced alleging that Ahmadu exploited his political position to establish a fraudulent travel scheme. It is claimed that individuals with no official business paid fees through agents, including one identified as Amy Berry, under the guise of securing travel opportunities via his office. Investigations suggest that Ahmadu collected over $400,000 through these deceptive practices, with many victims neither traveling nor obtaining visas.

The Honorable Minister of Youth Affairs, Mohamed Orman Bangura, swiftly acted upon receiving numerous complaints from the public regarding Ahmadu’s activities. Following an internal review, Ahmadu was suspended for six months on January 6, 2025, pending further investigation. His suspension letter cited “alleged misconduct and institutional misrepresentation,” emphasizing that his actions were detrimental to the Ministry’s image and demonstrated a lack of professionalism expected from a presidential appointee.

The letter referenced Rule 15.51#13 of the Civil Service Code, which explicitly prohibits accepting bribes or soliciting gifts in connection with official duties. Ahmadu reportedly admitted to collecting significant sums from youths for travel arrangements that ultimately did not materialize, contravening his mandate to advocate for their interests.

Berry, one of Ahmadu’s alleged accomplices, has come forward with additional evidence, expressing frustration over her unsuccessful attempts to secure refunds for victims. In a TikTok video, she revealed that Ahmadu misled clients by claiming connections with high-ranking ministers to lend credibility to his schemes.

Minister Bangura’s decisive suspension of Ahmadu has been praised as a necessary step to protect potential victims from further exploitation. This situation underscores the need for heightened scrutiny in the appointment processes for such positions, given their potential impact on the office of the President.
