Sierra Leone and Russia Seek Cultural and Educational Partnerships

Freetown, Sierra Leone March 10, 2026: The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs engaged in a significant meeting with a visiting Russian delegation to explore avenues for cultural exchange and collaboration between the two nations. Accompanied by Member of Parliament Hon. Sahr Emerson Lamina, the delegation’s visit was facilitated by the Office of the Vice President.

Hon. Lamina expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided by the engagement, emphasizing its potential to enhance collaboration between Sierra Leone and Russia. He noted that the discussions centered on strengthening cultural ties through various exchange programs, including presentations on Russian culture and potential partnerships that could mutually benefit both countries.

Natalia Krasvoskaia, speaking on behalf of the Russian delegation, outlined the mission of the Center for Public Diplomacy in fostering cultural diplomacy and enhancing dialogue between Russia and African nations. Krasvoskaia highlighted the organization’s initiatives focused on youth and women, along with educational exchanges and broader cultural programming across the continent. She announced plans to increase their engagement in Africa, including the possible establishment of a representation office in Sierra Leone to further educational, scientific, technological, and cultural cooperation.

Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Nabeela Tunis welcomed these initiatives, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fostering partnerships that enhance tourism and cultural development in Sierra Leone. Permanent Secretary Judith C. Jones provided insights into the Ministry’s mandate and ongoing projects, while Director of Tourism Travel and Exchange Program Mohamed Jalloh discussed the Ministry’s past efforts and identified potential areas for collaboration.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing appreciation for the constructive discussions and looking forward to future cooperation in cultural and tourism domains.
