A senior officer of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) is currently in custody in Sierra Leone after being apprehended with a substantial quantity of illegal drugs. Deputy Immigration Border Commander Randy P. Z. Tuweh was arrested on March 14, 2026, in the border town of Jendema.

According to the LIS, Tuweh was taken into custody by the Sierra Leone Drug Enforcement Agency (SLDEA) after officers discovered he was in possession of 600 strips of Tapentadol Tramadol, a controlled opioid medication. The LIS confirmed the arrest, stating, “Yes, we can confirm that Deputy Commander Randy P. Z. Tuweh was arrested by the Sierra Leone Drug Enforcement Agency in Jendema, Sierra Leone, after he was allegedly found with drugs, specifically 600 strips of Tapentadol Tramadol.”

Sierra Leone officially banned Tramadol tablets nationwide in January 2026 as part of a broader initiative to combat drug misuse and enhance public health safety. Tuweh’s arrest comes amid growing concerns about drug trafficking along the Liberia-Sierra Leone border, a corridor frequently exploited for smuggling activities.

In a related development, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) recently apprehended two Guinean nationals at the Bo Waterside crossing, where more than 500 packs of Tramadol worth over $400,000 were seized. The Bo Waterside area in Grand Cape Mount County is known as one of Liberia’s busiest international entry points and has been identified by security analysts as a likely corridor for narcotics trafficking.

As investigations proceed, LIS officials report that Tuweh is under active inquiry by Sierra Leonean authorities. The Liberia Immigration Service has dispatched its own investigative team to the border region to gather further information regarding the incident.
