The Ministry of Energy has permanently absorbed 50 percent of contract workers at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority into full-time civil service positions, delivering on a key promise made by Minister Cyril Arnold Grant upon taking office.
The move affects staff across all departments and regions of EDSA, including technical field crews, customer service officers and administrative personnel. Many of the affected workers have served the institution for years under contract arrangements without job security.
Minister Grant, while addressing staff, said the decision was in recognition of their contribution to keeping the country’s electricity distribution system running.
“Energy is the backbone of His Excellency President Bio’s service delivery mantra,” Grant stated. “Without electricity, there is no progress. And without you, there is no electricity. That is why I made this promise, and that is why I am here today to fulfil it.”
He urged the newly absorbed staff to view the development as both recognition and responsibility, and called on them to serve with diligence, professionalism and dedication to the people of Sierra Leone.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Denis Ivan Johnson of the Distribution, Technical and Service Department expressed appreciation to the Minister and Government.
“We have served this institution for a long time,” Johnson said. “Today we feel seen, we feel valued, and we promise to give back with even more commitment.”
The absorption is expected to boost morale within EDSA and strengthen service delivery as government continues to prioritise reliable electricity supply nationwide.
