Acting Chief Justice Marke has yesterday, Tuesday 17th September 2024, sent Yusif Tholley, a security guard, to five years in prison for housebreaking and larceny. Tholley pleaded guilty to stealing 58,521 Leones from the finance office safe of the building he was guarding.

During the trial, Tholley explained that he stole the money due to financial struggles. As the breadwinner for his family since his father’s passing and his mother’s loss of sight, he also supports his younger siblings. He had planned to travel to France for a program but used the stolen money to pay agent fees and make partial payments.

Defense attorney Cecilia Tucker pleaded for mercy, citing Tholley’s confession and first-time offender status. However, Chief Justice Marke handed down the five-year sentence.

Tholley was employed by J.T. Security Company and had access to the building where the theft occurred.

This verdict highlights the consequences of crime and underscores the need for addressing underlying social issues that drive individuals to desperation.
