Istanbul, Turkey March 27, 2026 Honourable Chernor Bah, Minister of Information and Civic Education, called for tougher and coordinated action to confront misinformation during the opening of the 2026 International Strategic Communication Summit (Stratcom Summit) in Istanbul.
Addressing global leaders, diplomats, and communication experts, the Minister said misinformation poses a direct threat to public trust, social cohesion, and the relationship between governments and citizens. He stressed that combating false narratives requires more than reacting to them it demands long-term strategies that strengthen credible information and public resilience.
Honourable Bah highlighted efforts centered on transparency, media and digital literacy, and citizen engagement, including partnerships with local media, digital literacy campaigns, and regulatory frameworks aimed at limiting the spread of harmful content online.
He also placed Sierra Leone’s concerns in the wider international context, noting that while the country is not directly involved in the conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, it is still feeling the effects. He cited rising fuel prices, higher import costs, and pressure on the cost of living, adding that disruptions to global trade and energy markets are impacting businesses, citizens, and government budgets.
Organized by Türkiye’s Presidency Communications Directorate, the Stratcom 2026 Summit brings together ministers, communication specialists, and technology innovators to discuss modern approaches to information management.
