Chinese Medical Team Cracks Complex TB Case, Restores Hope

Freetown – A 30-year-old Sierra Leonean man has made a remarkable recovery from a rare form of skeletal tuberculosis, thanks to the expertise of the 27th Chinese Medical Team (CMT) in Sierra Leone.

The patient, who had suffered a year-long battle with severe knee pain and swelling, was finally diagnosed and treated at the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital. The CMT’s multi-disciplinary team worked tirelessly to identify the underlying cause of his condition, relying on meticulous observation and analysis due to limited diagnostic resources.

“Tuberculosis remains a major global health threat,” said a CMT representative. “By combining clinical excellence with local capacity building, we are not just treating diseases we are helping to build resilient healthcare systems and a shared future of better health.”

The successful treatment has also provided an opportunity for knowledge sharing and capacity building, with local healthcare professionals receiving hands-on training from the CMT.
