Passport Fee Misconception: Sierra Leone’s Passport Costs Less Than $100, Says Netpage CEO

By Saidu Jalloh reporter D.S

Freetown – The CEO of Netpage, Jamal Shallop, has clarified that the cost of a Sierra Leone passport is not $100, contrary to widespread public perception. Shallop stated that payments for passport processing are not received in U.S. dollars and that the converted value of the fee ranges between approximately $91 and $92.

Shallop explained that the misconception arises from currency conversion rates, noting that the disparity between official and parallel market rates was more pronounced in the past. He disclosed that he had previously raised concerns about the sustainability of the contract with the relevant ministry due to these challenges.

The clarification aims to address public misconceptions about the cost of obtaining a Sierra Leone passport.
