Ibrahim Samura, a bike rider, has been remanded in custody for allegedly murdering Alfred Jusu, another motorbike rider, in Gloucester village, Freetown, on May 25, 2024.
Samura faces a murder charge under the Offense Against the Person Act of 1861, repealed and replaced by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021.
During the hearing at Pademba Road Court No.1, witness Fredrick Hanciles, the community Headman, identified Samura and the deceased, Alfred Jusu. Hanciles recounted hearing a lady shout about a body at the community’s first bridge on May 25, 2024.
“I went to the scene and found Jusu’s body,” Hanciles testified. “I reported the incident to the Acon police station, and they later arrested Samura in connection with Jusu’s death.”
Without legal representation, Samura cross-examined the witness himself. Magistrate Sahr Kekura adjourned the matter until September 24, 2024.
The case has left the cycling community in Freetown reeling, with many calling for justice for Alfred Jusu.
