Freetown, April 14, 2026 The ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party has launched a major fundraising drive aimed at raising up to Le 50 billion to bankroll its campaign for the 2028 general elections.

National Publicity Secretary Moses Mambu disclosed the plan during a broadcast on Slik TV, saying the party’s executive has already mobilized more than Le 8 billion. He noted that the effort is ongoing, with a long-term target set between Le 40 billion and Le 50 billion to cover future electoral activities.

Mambu described the initiative as a core part of the SLPP’s strategy to build institutional capacity well ahead of the polls. A strong financial base, he said, would help the party manage campaign logistics, scale up grassroots mobilization, and sharpen voter outreach before the next election cycle.

The move signals a shift toward early financial planning within the party, underscoring the growing role of sustained resource mobilization in modern campaigns. By prioritizing fundraising now, the SLPP intends to secure competitive footing and operational readiness as 2028 approaches.

Mambu did not provide a breakdown of the sources behind the Le 8 billion already raised but reaffirmed the party’s pledge to transparency and accountability. He added that the fundraising drive aligns with the SLPP’s broader mission and long-term political goals.

The announcement comes as parties across Sierra Leone reassess their strategies after the last general elections, with renewed emphasis on organization, financing, and voter engagement.
