Kamakwie, April 14, 2026 Statistics Sierra Leone has intensified its national outreach ahead of the 2026 Population and Housing Census, holding a civic town hall in Kamakwie to boost participation and public trust in the exercise.
The forum, hosted at the Karene District Council Hall in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, drew a broad mix of stakeholders. In attendance were officials from ministries, departments and agencies, Paramount and Regent Chiefs, Chiefdom Speakers, security personnel, the Chief Administrator of the Karene District Council, councillors, journalists, pupils, university students, civil society groups, market women, and other residents.
Officials urged residents to take part, noting that the credibility of the census hinges on full public cooperation. Ansumana reassured participants that all data collected will remain confidential and handled with integrity.
The town hall allowed for open dialogue, with residents posing questions and receiving clarification on census procedures. Statistics Sierra Leone said the engagement underscores its push for transparency, inclusivity, and community ownership of the national data process.
The Kamakwie session is part of a wider awareness campaign to mobilize citizens and strengthen confidence ahead of the count. The agency reaffirmed its pledge to deliver a credible, accurate, and inclusive census that reflects Sierra Leone’s true demographic profile.
The campaign continues under the slogan: “Census 2026: Leh Den Kont U Oh!”
