The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) on Friday, April 17, honoured 54 personnel of the 14th Infantry Battalion at Maple Leaf Barracks, Pujehun District, with Long Service and Good Conduct Awards in recognition of discipline, professionalism, and sustained commitment to duty.
The ceremony drew senior military officers, representatives of sister security forces, district stakeholders, women and youth groups, and members of the press.
Outlining the criteria, Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Alice Sesay said each recipient had served the RSLAF for more than 15 years with an unblemished record from their date of attestation. The awards, she noted, recognize not only years of service but also consistent discipline, loyalty, and a strong reputation throughout full-time duty.
“The selection was based on conduct, discipline, and overall service standing,” Lt. Col. Sesay said. “This is as much a recognition of character and dedication as it is of time served.”
A total of 54 soldiers qualified for the honours. The recipients included 1 Lieutenant Colonel, 6 Warrant Officers Class One, 11 Staff Sergeants, 20 Sergeants, 15 Corporals, and 1 Lance Corporal.
Paramount Chief of Kpanga Chiefdom, PC Andrew Ibrahim Jiah Kaikai, praised the initiative and urged awardees to maintain their commitment to national service. “Hard work pays,” he said, calling on officers to continue serving with diligence, respect for leadership, and a duty to protect all citizens of Sierra Leone.
The event concluded with the presentation of medals and remarks from guests across sectors, reaffirming the military’s core values of discipline, dedication, and service to the nation.
