ACCRA, GHANA – Health Minister Dr. Austin Demby took part in the launch of a new World Bank-led health, nutrition, and population strategy for Western and Central Africa, framing health investment as a driver of jobs and economic growth.
The high-level event, held Monday, May 4, 2026, in Accra, brought together regional leaders, the President of Ghana, and the World Bank Vice President for People. Dr. Demby attended as a special guest and addressed delegates on the country-driven roadmap covering 22 nations.
The Regional HNP Strategy positions health as both a social priority and a catalyst for productivity and economic expansion. Ministers are expected to translate the framework into national priorities in the coming months.
In high-level discussions, Dr. Demby outlined Sierra Leone’s ongoing health sector reforms and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to stronger health systems, human capital investment, and regional collaboration.
The launch is seen as a key step toward aligning health spending with wider economic transformation across Western and Central Africa.
