BRUSSELS, Belgium, June 1 Professor Dr. Charles Jalloh has opened his European diplomatic drive in Brussels, courting key UN member missions ahead of the November 2026 election for the International Court of Justice.

The Sierra Leonean jurist, accompanied by Ambassador Philip Bob Jusu, met Monday with the Chinese Ambassador H.E. Fei Shengchao, French Ambassador H.E. Lapeyre de Cabanes, Russia’s Minister-Counsellor Alexey Korzhuev, Somalia’s Deputy Head of Mission Jaffar Jama, and Pakistan’s Deputy Head of Mission Muhammad Faisal Fayyaz.

Ambassador Jusu framed the outreach as a case for merit and balanced representation. “The ICJ remains central to resolving disputes through law, not force,” he said. “Prof. Jalloh’s election would amplify Africa’s contribution to one of the world’s most consequential judicial bodies.”

He noted Sierra Leone’s current ECOWAS chairmanship as evidence of the country’s commitment to multilateral institutions.

Prof. Jalloh anchored his candidacy on three principles: integrity, independence, and impartiality — values he said have guided his work on the UN International Law Commission and in academia.

Diplomats present commended his record and pledged to relay the discussions to their capitals. Additional meetings are scheduled this week.
