A Chinese national employed at KK Company in Mile Six will be repatriated after the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security confirmed he kicked a Sierra Leonean factory worker accused of stealing drinks, with a lifetime ban imposed on his return.
The Ministry announced the outcome Tuesday 16 June 2026, following a preliminary inquiry into the alleged assault on Mr. Algasimu Barrie. The probe was launched after a formal complaint reached the ministry, prompting a field team led by Director of Occupational Safety and Health Abdul Karim Conteh to visit the plant.
According to the ministry’s press release, KK Company management told investigators that Chinese employee Lin Zhang kicked Mr. Barrie after the theft allegation. However, the ministry noted that management also alleged other injuries sustained by Mr. Barrie were inflicted by local security personnel attached to the company.
Condemning all workplace violence and harassment, the ministry said disciplinary action must conform to Sierra Leonean law and international labour standards. While the Sierra Leone Police continue their criminal investigation, KK Company has agreed to repatriate Lin Zhang immediately. The firm has further issued a permanent prohibition barring him from re-entering the country for any company-related work.
Meanwhile, the role of local security staff remains under review. The ministry stated that anyone found culpable will face legal proceedings. It added that monitoring of KK Company’s compliance with occupational safety, health, and labour regulations will continue, with further sanctions possible.
The ministry issued a warning to employers that violence, abuse, or mistreatment of workers will not be tolerated under any circumstance. It reassured workers nationwide that their rights, dignity, and safety are protected by law and pledged ongoing government intervention where violations occur.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to worker welfare and to ensuring workplaces across Sierra Leone operate within the framework of national labour laws and established safety standards.
