The National Early Warning and Response Mechanism Centre Sierra Leone (NEWRMC-SL) and the Chinese Embassy have agreed to explore closer collaboration on threat monitoring, analysis, and institutional capacity building.

The discussion took place on Monday, July 13, 2026, during a visit by the Defence Attaché of the Chinese Embassy, Senior Colonel Pu Lin, to the Centre’s headquarters in Freetown.

Col. Pu Lin said the engagement was aimed at identifying areas where China could support NEWRMC-SL’s work on peace and human security. He highlighted staff training as a priority area and referenced ongoing Chinese development programs in Sierra Leone that align with the Centre’s mandate. He also pledged to maintain regular dialogue with the institution.

NEWRMC-SL Executive Director, Mrs. Francess Nyuma, welcomed the visit and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to partnering with stakeholders to promote stability and human security. She said the Centre remains open to cooperation, particularly in the areas of assessment, analysis, and investigations into emerging security concerns.

The Centre’s Lead Analyst, Colonel (Rtd.) Fuad Musa Kanneh, presented an overview of NEWRMC-SL’s mandate. He explained that the institution tracks early warning indicators, coordinates responses to potential threats, and provides evidence to inform decision-making.

He noted that the Centre focuses on five key thematic areas: security, crime and criminality, good governance and human rights, health, and the environment.

Both institutions concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to strengthen cooperation in support of peace, stability, and sustainable development in Sierra Leone.
