Ten individuals, including Ansu Koroma, 23, and several masonry workers, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, for the continuation of their trial on two counts related to an alleged theft.
The accused—Abubakarr Serry, 30, Tamba Kargbo, 28, Mohamed Aruna, 24, Kelfalah Kamara, 28, and Abu Thomas, 32—are charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offense, on August 24, 2024, at Raymond Coker Drive, Hill Station, Freetown, the accused conspired with other unknown individuals to commit larceny. The charges detail that they allegedly stole a significant quantity of construction materials, including:
– 70 cartons of 60×60 tiles, valued at NLe 63,000
– 61 cartons of 60×30 tiles, valued at NLe 33,550
– 10 cartons of stone tiles, valued at NLe 6,500
– 10 bags of CTF, valued at NLe 3,500
– 14 cartons of muzik tiles, valued at NLe 11,480
– 60 cartons of 60×120 tiles, valued at NLe 54,000
– 1 pad, valued at NLe 15,330
In total, the value of the stolen items amounts to NLe 187,360, the property of Michaela Conteh.
Emmanuel Koroma, a driver and supervisor at the construction site, testified that he knows all the accused, as they previously worked for the same company. He mentioned that a video, allegedly showing the theft in progress, was in the possession of a Mr. Alex and had been sent to his phone as evidence. However, when questioned, Koroma stated he did not see any individuals in the video.
Magistrate Bangura denied bail for the accused, and the case has been adjourned to October 15, 2024, for further proceedings.
