The Sierra Leone Police, in partnership with INTERPOL, has commenced a three-day capacity-building workshop designed to strengthen the country’s response to human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
The training has brought together investigators from across the country to enhance skills in case handling, intelligence gathering, and regional collaboration aimed at combating transnational organized crime.
Speaking at the opening of the programme, INTERPOL Regional Specialist Madam Baraka Dankassoua said human trafficking remains a growing and complex challenge in Sierra Leone and across West Africa, with women and children among the most vulnerable.
She noted that building the capacity of frontline officers is critical to improving investigations, strengthening intelligence sharing, and fostering cross-border cooperation to dismantle trafficking networks.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the SLP and INTERPOL to equip law enforcement with the tools needed to effectively address modern trafficking threats and protect vulnerable populations.
