The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority has introduced mandatory standard inspections for all vehicles entering the country, as part of new measures aimed at reducing road traffic accidents.
Under the new directive, vehicles that do not meet required safety and roadworthiness standards will not be issued a Temporary Vehicle Registration. Such vehicles will also be barred from entering the national registration system until they comply with all stipulated requirements.
According to the Authority, the policy is designed to ensure that only roadworthy and safety-compliant vehicles are allowed to operate on Sierra Leone’s roads.
Officials say the initiative is expected to significantly improve road safety standards nationwide and contribute to a reduction in crashes.
The SLRSA has urged importers, dealers, and vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles meet inspection requirements before arrival to avoid delays in registration.
