FREETOWN — Two men were reportedly intercepted on Tuesday, August 25, while allegedly attempting to dispose of a dead body near Kissy Road Cemetery along the Hillside Bypass Road, according to reports from WeYus Blog and eyewitnesses at the scene.
An eyewitness said the men arrived with a bag and attempted to leave it at the cemetery. In the process, one of the men reportedly fell inside the cemetery after throwing the bag, while the other fled. Residents apprehended the man who remained.
The witness said the suspects initially told people the bag contained trash. When residents opened it, they allegedly found a dead body inside.
During questioning, the detained man reportedly claimed that he and his accomplice were paid NLe200 by two men from Eastern Police to dispose of the body. He also allegedly said the person had been dead since Friday.
A second eyewitness from the Mount Aureol area said the two men had allegedly traveled from Mountain Cut with the bag. According to the witness, they first tried to leave it at a prohibited location but were stopped by residents and told to move farther away.
The witness said one suspect later escaped while the other was caught nearby, and that the detained man repeated the claim about being paid NLe200 to dump the body.
Some residents at the scene speculated that the deceased may have been a victim of kush drug use, though no official source has confirmed the cause or circumstances of death. A keke rider at the scene reportedly expressed a similar view.
The identity of the deceased, the circumstances surrounding the death, and the alleged role of those said to have hired the suspects remain unconfirmed. Authorities had not been cited in the information provided as having officially established the cause of death or made any arrests.
