The newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, has held his first frank engagement with staff of the Ministry to outline his priorities and chart a new direction for Sierra Leone’s Foreign Service.
The meeting, held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Freetown, brought together senior officials and staff for an open dialogue on institutional challenges, shared goals and the future of the country’s diplomacy.
Addressing staff, Minister Swaray said his focus is on building a more responsive, effective and results-driven Ministry capable of advancing Sierra Leone’s interests on the global stage.
He stressed that the strength of the Foreign Service does not rest on policies alone, but on the professionalism, dedication and collective effort of its people.
“The strength of our Foreign Service rests not only in policies and diplomatic engagements, but in the professionalism, commitment and collective effort of the people who serve within it,” Swaray told staff.
He said he was encouraged by the frankness of the discussions and the shared determination among staff to work together to reposition the Ministry.
“I am encouraged by the engagement and the shared determination to work together to build a more responsive, effective and results-oriented Ministry that advances Sierra Leone’s interests and serves our people with distinction,” he said.
According to the Minister, the engagement also provided an opportunity for him to listen directly to staff concerns, experiences and ideas on how to strengthen service delivery and internal coordination.
The meeting signals Minister Swaray’s intention to prioritise internal cohesion and staff welfare as part of efforts to enhance Sierra Leone’s diplomatic footprint and international cooperation.
