FREETOWN — An Intelligence Officer attached to State House has been granted bail of Le50,000 after he was charged with fraudulent conversion of an official motorcycle valued at Le35,000.
Daniel Yankuba made his first appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown.
Court records show that the motorcycle in question is a TVS HLX 125, which was allegedly entrusted to Yankuba by Raymond Taylor of the Intelligence Department for official duties and safekeeping.
The prosecution alleges that between June 1 and June 30, 2026, at Taylor Drive, off Imatt in Freetown, Yankuba fraudulently converted the said motorcycle to his own use.
He faces one count charge of fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20 (1)(i)(iv) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
No plea was taken as the matter is still at the committal proceedings stage.
Prosecutor, Inspector Theresa Ballay informed the court that the defence counsel, S. Sandy Esq., had been served with all necessary documents.
Defence Counsel made a bail application pursuant to Section 76(1)(c) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 2024, which was granted by Magistrate Fornah.
The accused was granted bail in the sum of Le50,000 with one surety who must produce valid identification, subject to approval by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter was adjourned to October 28, 2026, for continuation of preliminary investigation.
