On November 9, 2024, the Orphan Empowerment Society (TOES) commemorated World Orphan Day with a series of impactful events designed to raise awareness and foster solidarity for orphaned children. This year’s theme, “Orphan Lives Matter,” underscored the urgent need for support and protection for these vulnerable members of society.

In an interview with the Daily Scope newspaper, Ambassador Alie Conteh, Executive Director of TOES, emphasized the significance of the observance. “World Orphan Day is an opportunity to highlight the challenges faced by orphaned children. More importantly, it serves as a day to reaffirm our collective responsibility to ensure that no child is left behind,” Conteh stated.

The day featured a community service drive, where volunteers from various organizations collaborated to raise awareness through solidarity work. Participants also showcased child protection and mental health messages on placards, amplifying the day’s purpose.

Conteh highlighted the necessity for sustainable initiatives that extend beyond a single day of recognition. “Our work is not just symbolic; we are dedicated to long-term efforts that create environments where orphans can thrive and build meaningful futures,” he explained. “We are actively seeking partnerships that will empower these children and make a lasting impact on their lives.”

For years, the Orphan Empowerment Society has been pivotal in providing emotional, financial, and educational support to orphaned children. Their programs have enabled countless children to access quality education, healthcare, and a supportive community.

In closing, Ambassador Conteh called for a united effort to tackle the challenges faced by orphaned children, urging citizens, governments, and organizations to collaborate for the betterment of future generations. “The plight of orphans is a shared burden, and only through collective action can we hope to achieve real, lasting change,” he asserted.

TOES aims for the awareness generated during this year’s World Orphan Day to inspire more individuals and organizations to join their mission of empowering orphans and fostering a more inclusive society.
