On December 2, 2024, a pivotal security meeting was held at the Sahn Town Court Barry to confront escalating issues of theft and lawlessness in Malen Chiefdom, particularly concerning the SOCFIN Agricultural Company. The gathering, chaired by Regent Chief Alex B. Lamin, emphasized the urgent need to combat palm oil theft and restore peace to promote regional development. Chief Lamin highlighted the essential collaboration required between community members and security stakeholders to address these challenges effectively.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Michael Tommy, Officer Commanding the Sahn Malen Police Post, introduced police officers from Pujehun and Bo City who participated in the discussions. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lawrence Sao Taylor addressed traffic law violations, cautioning motorbike riders and drivers against reckless behavior and operating without proper licenses. Francis Solomon, Head of Security for SOCFIN, urged community adherence to by-laws designed to protect the company’s assets, advocating for mutual cooperation to foster positive relations.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Brima Kanneh, Regional Police Commander South, reassured attendees of his commitment to maintaining order in Malen Chiefdom. He announced plans to enhance police presence in the area to combat lawlessness and issued a stern warning against criminal activities, including drug offenses. AIG Kanneh noted the Southern Region’s successes in crime reduction under his leadership and vowed to sustain these efforts. Superintendent Alieu S. Kamara, Regional Operations Commander, echoed this commitment, promising swift actions against criminal elements to reinforce law and order.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolution among stakeholders to prioritize security and foster the development of Malen Chiefdom.
