W.A.M Collegiate emerged victorious in the Western Area Secondary School Cricket Championship on December 13, 2024, defeating Government Secondary School Kingtom by 30 runs in a thrilling final held at Kingtom Oval.
Batting first, W.A.M Collegiate set a challenging total of 117 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 15 overs. In response, Government Secondary School Kingtom fell short in their chase, managing only 87 runs for seven wickets, securing a decisive victory for W.A.M Collegiate.
The month-long tournament marked the return of the Western Area Cricket League after a five-year hiatus, featuring six competing schools and showcasing the resurgence of cricket at the school level. St. Edward’s Secondary School secured third place with a commanding win against Government Secondary School Kingtom, further emphasizing the competitive nature of the championship.
Cricket Sierra Leone hailed the tournament as a significant milestone in promoting youth cricket in the country. The governing body announced plans to expand the league into the Western Rural region in January 2025, alongside a fan-driven cricket clinic aimed at engaging communities and identifying young talent.
With the successful conclusion of the Western Urban League, Cricket Sierra Leone is optimistic about maintaining momentum and strengthening the sport’s presence among Sierra Leonean youth.
