A catastrophic fire tore through Kpetema Town in Bumpeh Chiefdom, Moyamba District, on March 14, resulting in the destruction of over one hundred houses and approximately ten shops.
Initial reports suggest that the blaze was ignited by a young man clearing his farmland near the town. Eyewitnesses described how the flames rapidly spread, overwhelming residential and commercial properties and leaving thousands of residents without shelter.
Among those affected is Miss Salamatu, a local shop owner, who expressed her profound distress over the loss of her business and personal belongings. “We did not have the chance to save anything from our buildings, resulting in millions of Leones in losses,” she lamented.
In the wake of the disaster, the community is urgently appealing for assistance from the government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to support the displaced families. Local leaders are mobilizing efforts to provide temporary housing and essential supplies for victims.
As Kpetema Town confronts this devastating setback, the call for support becomes increasingly critical to help rebuild lives and restore hope in the community.
