The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) is participating in a three-day ECOWAS Regional Workshop on Baseline Data and Analysis for Humanitarian Needs and Response, which commenced today, May 7, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria. The workshop, organized by the Directorate of Humanitarian Affairs of the ECOWAS Commission, aims to address the escalating and complex humanitarian challenges faced by Member States.
Bringing together technical experts from various regional institutions, the workshop is set to guide ECOWAS’s humanitarian interventions for 2025 in critical areas such as Livelihood Support, Food and Nutrition, Education in Emergencies, Cash Assistance, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
Representing the NDMA at the workshop are Mohamed L. Bah, Director of Communications, and Abu Bakarr Bangura, Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation. On behalf of the NDMA, Director Bah delivered an insightful presentation on the baseline humanitarian situation in Sierra Leone. He outlined the country’s priority areas in line with ECOWAS’s thematic interventions, supported by credible data, and provided insights into ongoing response efforts.
Director Bangura highlighted the significance of such workshops in bolstering collaboration among Member States. He noted that these meetings enhance the agency’s capacity in data collection and analysis, essential for more effective humanitarian planning and response.
Each participating country presented a detailed situational overview and identified key intervention areas. The data collected will be analyzed by ECOWAS to assess the level of support required for each Member State.
