Gabriel Kpaka, Deputy Director of the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency, has announced that the country is expected to experience significantly high levels of rainfall this year. The agency’s forecast predicts that 2025 could witness the highest rainfall recorded in Sierra Leone in the past 30 years.

Kpaka cautioned that failure to clear major drainage systems could lead to serious flooding and disasters, particularly in high-risk areas. He urged immediate precautionary measures in light of the anticipated heavy rainfall across the country. The alert underscores the importance of implementing safety measures to mitigate risks associated with flooding, landslides, and other rain-related hazards.

Sierra Leone has experienced heavy rains in recent years, resulting in loss of life and property. The Meteorological Agency’s forecast of significantly high rainfall this year raises concerns and highlights the urgent need for preparedness.
