A Burkinabé woman has responded to comments made by Sierra Leone’s Information Minister, Chernor Bah, regarding Burkina Faso’s government. Bah characterized the nation’s political system as a “package” that combines military rule with the suppression of opposition, asserting that Sierra Leone does not wish to follow this model.
In her rebuttal, the woman questioned why Sierra Leone would not aspire to emulate Burkina Faso or consider a leader like President Ibrahim Traoré. While acknowledging Traoré’s authoritarian leadership style, she expressed strong support for his governance, stating, “We love it like that. He is a dictator who builds schools for us, provides industries, improves infrastructure, supports university students, revives culture and tradition, and unites the country.”
She also referenced Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Maada Bio, declaring, “All of Africa is fighting for Fatima; Burkina is fighting for her. And he (Chernor Bah) is busy talking about us.”
Captain Ibrahim Traoré has been in power since 2022 following a military coup and, at 37, is among the youngest leaders globally.
