On Thursday, July 3, 2025, the Speaker of Sierra Leone’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, announced the appointment of Deputy Clerk Gilbert Bosco N’habay as Acting Clerk of Parliament. This decision comes in light of the leave taken by the Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally.
In a formal announcement made in the Well of Parliament, Speaker Thomas informed Members of Parliament that N’habay will serve as Acting Clerk until further notice.
A letter dated June 1, 2025, revealed that the President had directed the Clerk of Parliament to take leave effective June 20, 2025, a development communicated to the Opposition Leader, Hon. Abdul Kargbo.
In a separate legislative move, the House of Parliament, on the same day, passed the Bill entitled ‘The Child Rights Act of 2024’ with amendments. This new legislation seeks to repeal and replace the Child Rights Act of 2007 (Act No. 7 of 2007) and aims to promote the rights and responsibilities of children, aligning with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of Children.
