Sierra Leone has entered into a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AFS Intercultural Programs, aimed at empowering young leaders through intercultural learning and global education. The agreement was formalized by Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah and AFS President and CEO Daniel Obst during the closing ceremony of Sierra Leone’s side event at the annual AFS Youth Assembly.

AFS Intercultural Programs, a century-old global non-profit operating in over 60 countries, is dedicated to fostering peace and justice through educational exchange initiatives. This strategic partnership, two years in the making, will grant Sierra Leonean students, educators, and young leaders access to esteemed programs, including the AFS Global STEM Accelerators, the Global STEM Educator program, Effect+ for the Classroom, and participation in the AFS Youth Assembly.

Minister Bah underscored the personal and national importance of the partnership, reflecting on his long-standing relationship with AFS that began during his youth advocacy. He recalled delivering a keynote speech at their centennial celebration in Paris in 2014, emphasizing the agreement’s potential to cultivate confident, globally minded changemakers in Sierra Leone.

The partnership will facilitate cross-cultural training, leadership development, and exchange programs designed to build global competencies, promote social entrepreneurship, and inspire civic engagement on both local and international levels.

Daniel Obst hailed the agreement as a significant milestone in expanding access to transformative intercultural experiences. He expressed enthusiasm for collaborating to equip young people with the skills and networks necessary to tackle global challenges and lead within their communities. This signing marks the beginning of a promising new chapter in Sierra Leone’s mission to foster an inclusive, empowered, and globally connected future for its youth.
