Episode 14: APC delegates, this isn’t just another convention, it’s about the future of Sierra Leone.
By Dr Doma
On Thursday August 7, 2025, President Julius Maada Bio during his speech in Parliament, spoke about leadership for all Sierra Leoneans, not just one party.
Shortly after, Sengehpor Thomas, Speaker of the house of Parliament took it a step further calling for power sharing in the Executive.
He said proportional representation (PR) is already working in Parliament so why not extend it to the Presidency and Cabinet?
This is not just political talk. It’s a sign of how determined the current government is to hold on to power even if it means reshaping the rules and it should make every APC delegate think very carefully about the kind of leader your party need.
As you prepare to choose your party’s next flagbearer, ask yourself:
- Do you know your candidate’s view on power sharing or have you questioned it or should you be?
- From past experience after the 2023 elections, can you identify those who might quietly accept such a deal if the same rigged outcome repeats?
- With this idea of Executive power sharing being pushed, can you see how much the government intends to deny the people’s real democratic choice?
- Doesn’t this make it clear why APC must win decisively leaving no room for backroom compromises?
This isn’t about picking someone who just wants to “win” in name.
It’s about choosing a leader who will protect the people’s mandate, stand firm when pressured and still unite the nation when needed.
Too often, Sierra Leone’s politics has been “winner takes it all” and while that has its flaws, so does “loser still takes half.”
Delegates must weigh carefully whether the candidate they choose will hold power to deliver change or share it away in the name of peace while the real issues remain.
Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr remains a standout in this race tested in crisis, proven in service and committed to governing for all Sierra Leoneans.
She’s shown that unity and firmness can coexist.
The world is watching. History is recording.
So delegates, don’t just ask who can win ask who will lead, defend and deliver for the whole country.
If not now, when?
If not Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, who?
