Three Police Officers Dismissed for Alleged Armed Robbery in Rokel Community

Freetown, August 13, 2025 — In a significant move to uphold accountability within the Sierra Leone Police Force, three officers have been dismissed following allegations of their involvement in an armed robbery in Rokel Community, located east of Freetown.

During a press briefing at the Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, Assistant Commissioner of Police Allieu Jalloh, head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), confirmed the dismissals. The officers are suspected of participating in the robbery that occurred on August 2, 2025.

The principal suspect, identified as James Tucker, known by the nickname “Jaga Jaga,” is currently in custody along with two other former officers who were recently let go. Reports indicate that the suspects, armed with firearms and other dangerous weapons, disguised themselves as police officers conducting an anti-drug operation.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that residents of Rokel Community resisted the suspects’ actions, asserting they were not engaged in any illegal drug activities. This resistance led to a confrontation, during which the suspects overpowered the residents and made off with cash and valuables.

Police records indicate that Tucker, previously a member of the Anti-Robbery Unit, had been transferred to the Mountain Division, where he reportedly ceased attending his duty posts. Investigations suggest he may have recruited other officers into criminal activities.

The dismissal of these officers is seen as a vital step in restoring public trust in the police force and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16, which emphasizes promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions within communities.

The investigation is ongoing, and the accused officers are expected to face legal charges once the inquiry is concluded.
