Two Arrested in Bo Following Alleged Kidnapping Attempt

On August 22, 2025, chaos erupted in the Government Reservation area of Bo when two men were rescued from an angry mob after being accused of attempting to kidnap a 16-year-old girl.

The suspects, identified as Mohamed Sheku Sannoh and Abdulai Sandi from Gbaima Road, allegedly approached the girl, claiming they could assist her with her academic struggles, which they asserted were “spiritually affected.” The girl agreed to accompany them on a motorbike, but her aunt grew concerned and raised an alarm after questioning their intentions.

Community members intervened when the motorbike failed to start, leading to the suspects being surrounded. Local stakeholders, including civil society representatives led by Joseph Dominic Blackie, contacted AIG Brima Kanneh, the Regional Police Commander for the South. He swiftly dispatched officers from the Bo West Division and the Operations Support Division to defuse the situation and prevent mob violence.

Police recovered a bag containing items such as chants, “sebe,” and traditional cloth, raising suspicions among residents who feared a ritualistic motive. While Sannoh reportedly confessed their intent was to rob the girl of her phone and valuables rather than cause her harm, community fears persisted.

The victim, initially in shock, has since recovered from the ordeal. The case is currently under investigation by the Regional Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) South, which is exploring both robbery and ritual-related allegations.

AIG Brima Kanneh reassured the community of the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to a thorough investigation and urged residents to remain calm as the inquiry progresses.
