Chief Augustine Tamba, representing displaced families from Yenga, has reported that the community remains inaccessible to both national military personnel and ECOWAS delegates. In a recent interview with Liberty Online TV, Chief Tamba emphasized that, despite official claims of Yenga being “free,” ongoing security issues have hindered any potential visits to the area, including by ECOWAS representatives.
“If a citizen approaches Yenga, their life is at risk,” Tamba cautioned, highlighting the gravity of the situation. He also noted that there have been no recent updates from Yenga due to continued restrictions on access, which have left the community isolated.
Meetings aimed at resolving the longstanding territorial dispute between Sierra Leone and Guinea over Yenga have had to take place in neighboring towns such as Sokoma, as conditions on the ground remain too perilous for direct engagements within Yenga itself.
