During the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of Youth Affairs Ibrahim Sannoh delivered a compelling lecture at the Aspire Artemis Foundation High-Level Forum, focusing on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in bridging the global digital divide and fostering opportunities for youth.
In his address, themed “Culture, Health, Trade and the Role of Artificial Intelligence: Bridging the Digital Divide through Collective Action Partnerships for Young People,” Minister Sannoh reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s dedication to promoting digital inclusion. He stressed the importance of utilizing AI as a means to expand opportunities rather than exacerbate inequalities.
“AI should not widen inequalities; instead, it must be harnessed to create a fairer, more inclusive digital future where young people and women stand as equal leaders in shaping innovation,” Minister Sannoh stated.
The forum convened students, young professionals, and global changemakers to explore themes of innovation and equity. In a dialogue with Michael Sheldrick, Co-Founder of Global Citizen, the discussion highlighted how advocacy, data, and youth-led initiatives can accelerate poverty eradication and support sustainable development.
Minister Sannoh also participated in the High-Power Africa Panel – Youth & Women Driving Digital Transformation, where he outlined Sierra Leone’s investments in digital skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation, emphasizing the crucial roles of youth and women in Africa’s digital future.
The event concluded with a clarion call for collective action, underscoring the need for bold leadership in bridging the global digital divide. Sierra Leone reaffirmed its belief that empowering young people and women is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic pathway to sustainable growth, equity, and peace.
