Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, has reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and empowering educational framework for all children. This affirmation followed a meeting with a high-level delegation from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), led by the newly appointed Country Representative, Kunle Adeniyi.
The meeting was described by Minister Sackey as both productive and forward-looking, focusing on collaborative efforts to improve access to quality education and enhance child protection. Key initiatives discussed included:
- Second Chance Education Programme: Aimed at reintegrating out-of-school children and youth, particularly young girls, back into the formal education system.
- Comprehensive Life Skills and Sexual Health Education: A culturally sensitive curriculum designed to equip students with essential knowledge to address challenges such as teenage pregnancy.
- Combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV): Strengthening school systems through a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and establishing a coordinated national emergency response.
Minister Sackey expressed deep gratitude to UNFPA for its ongoing technical and financial support, highlighting its role in developing teacher training manuals, engaging communities, and facilitating capacity-building initiatives for educators across various districts.
He emphasized that the partnership with UNFPA is a cornerstone of the ministry’s broader strategy to promote inclusivity, safety, and quality education for every child. “We are dedicated to continuing this vital work together, ensuring that no child is left behind,” Minister Sackey affirmed.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Education and UNFPA marks a significant stride toward achieving equitable education and empowering the next generation.
