In a significant move towards enhancing postal services in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Communications, Technology and Innovation (MoCTI), Sierra Leone Postal Services Limited (SALPOST), and GIG Logistics Technologies Limited (GIGL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement establishes a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework aimed at modernizing the nation’s postal and logistics infrastructure.
The MOU is designed to improve service delivery in postal and logistics, as well as technology and financial services, fostering innovation, efficiency, and connectivity across the country.
Mr. Brima Katta, Managing Director of SALPOST, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration represents a transformative step for SALPOST, evolving it into a modern logistics network that can reliably serve citizens, businesses, and government entities.”
Madam Salima Bah, Minister of Communications, Technology and Innovation, highlighted the MOU as a critical component of Sierra Leone’s broader digital transformation strategy. She noted that a technology-driven postal system is essential for enhancing service delivery and stimulating economic growth.
Mr. Sebastine Osita, CEO of GIG Logistics, emphasized the partnership’s potential to bolster infrastructure, generate employment, and improve access to dependable logistics services throughout Sierra Leone.
Key objectives of the MOU include:
- Strengthening postal and logistics operations
- Introducing postal and zip code systems
- Supporting digital transformation initiatives
- Expanding warehousing capabilities for government agencies
- Enhancing financial services, including remittances and agency banking
- Optimizing SALPOST’s infrastructure
- Promoting job creation in line with local content policies
