In a significant crackdown on drug abuse, police from the Makeni and Panlap Divisions, alongside personnel from regional headquarters, have rescued 123 individuals struggling with addiction in and around Makeni. The rescued addicts have been transferred to a rehabilitation center located along the Makeni–Kabala Highway.

This initiative, led by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Victor Manfred Williams, was executed in partnership with Makeni City Council Mayor Abu Bakarr Lamtail Kamara and local youth organizations. The operation targeted both users and dealers of dangerous substances, including Kush, Tramadol, and Cannabis Sativa.

Sahid Arene Kabia (Gaza), Head of the Action for Rehabilitation Centre in Makeni, praised the operation as a vital step in the government’s ongoing battle against narcotic drug abuse, which has severely impacted many young Sierra Leoneans. He urged the community to engage actively in the fight against drugs, commending the police, the Mayor, and local youth for their collaborative efforts.

During a visit to the Rogbaneh Police Station, AIG Williams reiterated the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and supporting drug users through rehabilitation rather than punitive measures. This operation highlights the strengthening collaboration between law enforcement, local authorities, and communities in addressing the drug crisis in Sierra Leone.
